Liverpool take on Atletico Madrid in their first Champions League game of the season this evening in an 8pm BST kick off at Anfield. The Reds are in good form in the league this term, winning their opening four matches. They scraped all three points last time out against Burnley at Turf Moor, nicking a winner thanks to Mohamed Salah’s penalty late on after Hannibal Mejbri handled.

The big talking point now is whether star summer signing Alexander Isak will make his debut in the famous red shirt, having been omitted from the travelling squad at Burnley. Fellow new recruit up front Hugo Ekitike has started superbly, and will be hard to displace considering the Frenchman’s recent form, but Isak, brought in for £125million from Newcastle, has been named in the matchday squad here and should earn some minutes.

Arne Slot has insisted that he will take his time introducing Isak, bedding him in gently because of a lack of pre-season preparation as the Swedish international tried to force a move to Merseyside from the north-east. As for Atleti, they have been a bit patchier in the league, winning just one of their first four fixtures, but they are always tricky customers in Europe, and this evening will be no different.
