Liverpool's Swedish striker Alexander Isak has been ruled out of Tuesday's Champions League match against Real Madrid at Anfield scheduled for 8:00 PM GMT as he continues to recover from thigh muscle injury according to manager Arne Slott.

Speaking at press conference on Monday, Slot added that Isak is expected to miss the matchday squad but could return for Liverpool’s Premier League showdown with Manchester City on Sunday.

"Isak will not be available tomorrow, and he will not start against Man City but we are hopeful he could be in the squad for that match" said Slot.

Additionally Alisson Becker and Jeremiah Frimpong will also miss both games due to injury. The Brazilian goalkeeper and the Dutch right-back will not be available for either Real Madrid or Sunday’s crucial domestic clash.

"The three players will not be with us tomorrow and unfortunately, Alisson and Frimpong will not make it for Sunday either" Slot confirmed.

The £130 million signing from Newcastle United has been sidelined for the last 3 match and has struggled to make significant impact for Liverpool scoring just one goal in 8 appearance since his arrival.

However Slot remains optimistic about his recovery:

"He hasn't trained with us recently so we’ll have to wait and see. We're hopeful for the future"..

The stakes for Liverpool

Liverpool having bounced back with 2-0 win over Aston Villa will be aiming to build momentum against Real Madrid with Group B in the Champions League still up for grabs.
