Reds suffered another defeat over the weekend

Question marks remain over how many changes Arne Slot will make to his Liverpool side after they suffered another defeat last weekend.

The Premier League champions were beaten by Brentford on Saturday evening, with the Bees running out 3-2 victors at the Gtech Community Stadium.

The big talking point there was that Mohamed Salah was reinstalled into the starting lineup after being dropped for the 5-1 win over Eintracht Frankfurt in the Champions League, which snapped Liverpool’s four-game losing streak.

However, they found themselves on the end of another loss in west London, as Dango Ouattara, Kevin Schade, and Igor Thiago’s goals consigned them to a fourth league defeat of the campaign, and they fell to seventh in the table as a result.

Now, they face Crystal Palace, who have defeated them twice this term - in the Community Shield and in the last minute of a 2-1 win at Selhurst Park.

So that begs the question, how strong will Slot go for this Carabao Cup tie?

Injury-wise, he will definitely be without Alisson Becker and Jeremie Frimpong, who are both sidelined with thigh and hamstring issues respectively.

Alexander Isak missed the trip to the capital over the weekend with a groin issue and will be assessed before this fixture, and that is the same for midfielder Ryan Gravenberch and Curtis Jones.

Hence, it will be Giorgi Mamardashvili in goal once more for the Reds.

Conor Bradley was withdrawn just after the hour at the weekend, with Dominik Szoboszlai shifting to right-back once more from his initial midfield berth, but with concerns over Gravenberch and Jones’ fitness, Slot may be forced to keep the Hungarian in the engine room and leave Bradley on the right side of defence.

Milos Kerkez netted his first goal for his new club in the 3-2 defeat, but he was also replaced by Andy Robertson in that 60th-minute triple change.

Joe Gomez was Slot’s final substitution in the 83rd minute, coming on for Florian Wirtz, and he will add a bit more central defensive depth after the ACL injury to Giovanni Leoni.

In the attacking third, Hugo Ekitike is likely to continue to lead the line, while Cody Gakpo was replaced by Federico Chiesa in the last of those three changes.

Predicted Liverpool XI: Mamardashvili; Bradley, Konate, van Dijk, Robertson; Szoboszlai, Mac Allister; Salah, Wirtz, Gakpo; Ekitike.

Injured: Alisson, Frimpong, Leoni

Doubts: Isak, Gravenberch, Jones

Venue: Anfield
