Liverpool's brilliant plan to replace Cody Gakpo

Liverpool have a brilliant plan to replace Cody Gakpo.

Liverpool want to compete at the very top, and that means having attackers who deliver consistently - something the Dutchman hasn’t quite managed, especially on the left wing.

He’s had his moments, sure, but they’ve been too few and far between to really nail down a starting spot in a team aiming to be among Europe’s best.

A big issue is his lack of impact in one-on-one situations. Modern wingers are expected to take on defenders, create space, and cause chaos — but Gakpo often struggles to do that. Too often, he doesn’t really impose himself.

He can also feel a bit predictable. He loves cutting onto his right foot and getting a shot away, but defenders have figured that out, and it hasn’t worked most of the time this season. It's only frustrated us fans and made it really easy for opposition defenders to play against him.

That predictability makes Liverpool easier to defend against, which is the last thing you want.

On top of that, he can drift through games without really making his presence felt. For a team that relies on sharp, decisive attackers, that’s a problem.

He’s not without value as a squad option, but Liverpool need more from a starting left-winger - someone who can stretch defences, create chances, and deliver when it matters most.

If they’re serious about competing at the highest level, upgrading that position has to be a priority.

And it looks like they are embarking on that mission at last.

Richard Hughes' previous attempts to replace find a regular left-winger for Liverpool have been to no avail. Pursuits to sign Anthony Gordon, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and Antoine Semenyo all failed.

But now there is optimism at Liverpool again. The club is planning on signing two attackers this summer, potentially two wingers, one to replace Mo Salah and another to come in and play on the left-wing and be a versatile option.

One of the names that is 'seriously' gathering attention among Liverpool's decision makers is Iliman Ndiaye according to TEAMtalk.

The site claims that Ndiaye is high up on the shortlist for the club this summer alongside Yan Diomande.

And this could be the perfect move. Diomande and Ndiaye are both capable of playing both as right-wingers and as left-wingers.

Diomande definitely has predominantly played on the right in his career, and Ndiaye seems to prefer the left.

So essentially, Liverpool will be bringing in the Senegalese forward to replace Gakpo, which would be a brilliant plan.

Ndiaye is exactly what Liverpool need right now. He's fast, and he's very direct. Simply brilliant in one vs one situations.

Right now he's entering his prime years and you could just imagine how exciting Liverpool's attack would look with him linking up alongside Hugo Ekitike, Florian Wirtz and Alexander Isak, with Diomande on the right-wing.

Of course, Everton will have something to say about that, too. It would be a groundbreaking move if Liverpool can pull it off, but it's one Liverpool at least have to try because it makes so much sense.
