EXCLUSIVE! Chelsea pick main candidate for new full back transfer pursuit!

Chelsea were not where they need to be, but they are trying to build something back up, of which the signs we are starting to see this season.

As well as negatives, we can also always draw on some positives. And one of the biggest positives from last season was the breakout of academy star Alfie Gilchrist.

The young defender was the captain of Chelsea’s U21s side, and Pochettino gave him his first senior appearances as he broke through into the first team.

Gilchrist was then quite regular in the Chelsea first team squad, albeit mainly as a bench player. But he did earn many admirers amongst the fan base and became a bit of a terrace hero.

Gilchrist has started well

He is now out on loan with Sheffield United in the Championship and he has made 12 appearances for them already this season.

He’s received a glowing report from a local reporter.

Adam Oxley, a BBC Radio Sheffield reporter said:

🗣️ “What is clear is that Gilchrist absolutely loves defending. He thrives on a tackle, a header, a block and he celebrates a good piece of defending just as much as a striker would celebrate a goal.

Gilchrist’s pace, concentration and positioning regularly put him in the right place to do his job, and the fans have really taken to him for all of this.”
