Lorient 2-0 Marseille ratings: Bamba Dieng torments Leonardo Balerdi | OneFootball

Marseille were outmanoeuvred by Lorient in a 2-0 defeat, Bamba Dieng scoring against his former club as Leonardo Balerdi and the back line struggled.

According to L'Équipe, Marseille were passive and Lorient's running pulled them apart. Panos Katseris almost forced Paixao into an own goal on six minutes, Yvon Mvogo saved at 10, and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang passed up a shot on 18. Katseris then made it 1-0 on 28, after Dieng and Arthur Avom had sprung the visitors open.

Himad Abdelli erred with a misplaced pass on 41 and shot over on 47. Katseris delivered another perfect cross for Dieng on 49, and Mvogo gathered again on 50.

Aubameyang failed to hit the target on 53 and found the side-netting on 55. Lorient doubled their lead on 58, Dieng chipping Geronimo Rulli after a pass from Pagis, moments after Amine Gouiri had lost the ball. Balerdi appealed for an offside that was not there.

Abdelli and Gouiri were withdrawn on 59 for Bilal Nadir and Ethan Nwaneri, who shot wide on 72. Dieng went off for Aiyegun Tosin on 75, and Aubameyang made way for Ugo el-Kadmiri on 76.

Dieng, formerly of Marseille, finished with his ninth goal of 2026 and five recoveries, having carried the ball 50 metres at one stage. Avom impressed in midfield by finding runners early and winning six balls, while Katseris' pace repeatedly drove Marseille back. Balerdi, like Benjamin Pavard, exuded little calm during a chastening night.
