The spectacular 3-3 draw at FC Bayern ended for 1. FC Heidenheim not only with a late goal – but also with a serious injury
There was a lot going on in the turbulent Bundesliga clash between FC Bayern and 1. FC Heidenheim. In addition to Munich’s late equalizer, the underdogs also suffered a bitter injury
Defender Jonas Föhrenbach suffered a serious nose injury in a collision with his own goalkeeper Diant Ramaj. The scene caused a great deal of excitement on the pitch
„Föhrenbach has lost his entire nose,“ explained team-mate Patrick Mainka on Sky after the match. Coach Frank Schmidt confirmed the injury: „The nose is broken, it’s through.“
Despite the serious injury, Föhrenbach showed great fighting spirit and the defender even returned to the pitch to help his team in the closing stages
Schmidt was impressed by this commitment: „The fact that Föhrenbach tried again was pure willpower, I don’t know why we can’t win this game in the end. That’s madness“
In sporting terms, Heidenheim conceded a bitter equalizer at the last second. A shot from Michael Olise hit the post in stoppage time, bounced off Ramaj’s back and over the line

„The boys left everything on the pitch. Of course, the pressure then increased and of course it’s difficult,“ said Mainka. „We said before the game that we needed that little bit of luck. That it’s the inside of the post again in the end and it rolls in there is madness and hurts incredibly.“
Despite the late setback, Schmidt was proud of his team: „I don’t want to feel any negative vibes, I’m incredibly proud. Nobody could complain if we win 3:2 here.“
