Luís Castro sets Brasileirão as Grêmio’s priority amid testing run and cup ties | OneFootball

Grêmio have made the Brasileirão their main focus, Luís Castro said, as the club juggle three competitions, according to Globo.com. The coach, who began the year targeting Libertadores qualification, is now trying to keep the side clear of the drop zone.

They visit Bolívar on Thursday at 19h in the Sul-Americana playoffs. The league resumes against Fluminense on Sunday at 18h30 at the Arena.

The second leg with Bolívar is at home the following Thursday at 19h. August opens with Copa do Brasil last 16 ties with Mirassol on two and five, first at the Maião then at the Arena.

Castro plans changes. Carlos Vinicius is suspended, with Braithwaite the natural deputy, and Amuzu is unlikely to feature after time out under concussion protocol. Further tweaks are possible to manage fatigue and respond to the poor display against Mirassol.

While admitting the club attach different weight to each competition, Castro said Grêmio will not abandon any for now. He placed the Brasileirão first, the Copa do Brasil second and the Sul-Americana third, while insisting all three matter.

Grêmio are 16th on 21 points, one ahead of Vasco, the first team in the Z-4, who have already played in the 19th round. The gap to the G-5 could grow depending on the six remaining results.
