Sevilla have appointed Luis Garcia Plaza as head coach the day after dismissing Matias Almeyda. The club said in a statement that the 53-year-old Spaniard has signed a deal until June 2027.
Sevilla sit three points above the relegation places and remain under pressure. They are 15th with 31 points from 29 matches.
Almeyda was removed after four matches without a win, the decision coming in the wake of a 0-2 defeat to Valencia earlier this week.
Garcia Plaza, previously in charge of Getafe, Villarreal, Mallorca and Alavés, set a firm tone. He said the situation is not what anyone wants but, with hard work from the players, energy from his staff and support from the fans, they will turn it around and reach their ultimate target.
He has two months and nine fixtures to steady Sevilla. Their next assignment comes after the international break, away to bottom club Real Oviedo on Sunday 5 April.
