Luizinho scores, extends lead as Corinthians U20 top scorer in 2026

Late Monday afternoon (2), Corinthians faced Grêmio at the Airton Ferreira da Silva Stadium in Eldorado do Sul (RS), in a match valid for the third round of the first phase of the Brazilian Under-20 Championship and won by a score of 3 x 1. The result placed the Filhos do Terrão in second place in the national competition with seven points – nine goals scored and three conceded.

The three points shook up the Timãozinho's top scorer ranking at the start of the 2026 season. This is because forward Luizinho reached his fifth goal in seven games for the team this year, taking the lead as the team's top scorer since then. The runner-up in this category is Luiz Fábio, with two goals in seven matches.

The goal by number 11 happened early in the match when he received a deep pass, dribbled the Grêmio defender with a nutmeg, and scored past the opposing goalkeeper. Besides him, the other two scorers for the Alvinegro were Luiz Gustavo Bahia (from a penalty), halfway through the first half, and Nicollas, in the final minutes of the first half in a counterattack set up by Gui Amorim. The latter two scored for the first time this year.

The club from Parque São Jorge will now remain focused on the national competition. Timãozinho will face Fortaleza at the Alfredo Schürig Stadium, Fazendinha, for the fourth round of the national competition. The Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) has not yet released the details of the match – date and time. The match is expected to take place only at the beginning of April.

Luiz Fernando's Journey at Corinthians So Far

Born in Taboão da Serra, metropolitan region of São Paulo, the winger joined Parque São Jorge in 2019 to join the Under-12 team and has since gone through all the categories. Previously, he had already played for CATS and Taboão da Serra.

In 2023, he gained more notoriety by scoring 11 goals in 35 matches in the Under-17 category, being the team's second top scorer that year and participating in the conquest of the Paulista Championship of the category, against São Paulo, at the Alfredo Schürig Stadium, in Parque São Jorge. His contract with Corinthians ends in December 2027.

In the 2024 season, he was promoted to the Under-20 squad after that year's Copinha and has since been one of the main players in the category, with 18 goals in 74 games for the team. In the Under-17, he scored 17 goals in 49 matches. In total, for Corinthians' Under-17 and 20, there are: 65 wins, 26 draws, and 33 losses. Luiz Fernando has not yet debuted for the main team, but in 2024, he was listed by coach Ramón Díaz for a match against Vitória, at Barradão, in the second round of that year's Brasileirão. On that day, the Corinthians team won 2 x 1, coming from behind.

Even without having debuted professionally, Luiz Fernando has already participated in training with the professional squad, both with Ramón Díaz and with Dorival Júnior, hired in April last year, and was observed by the coach to join the main team, as happened with André Luiz, Dieguinho, Luiz Gustavo Bahia, and Dieguinho.
