Luke Ayling has signed a new one-year contract with Middlesbrough, keeping him at the Championship club until 2027. The 34-year-old full-back has helped Boro challenge near the top, with seven games remaining.
The club said in a statement that the experienced defender has agreed a further year, has been a mainstay since arriving from Elland Road, and has flourished at right-back and centre-back, also captaining the side.
Ayling ended eight years at Leeds in 2024, first joining Boro on loan in January before completing a permanent move in the summer.
He made 28 appearances during the 2024-25 campaign as Boro finished 10th. This season he has already played 38 times as Boro sit second.
Ayling admitted last season was not great for him, said he wanted to show he could still operate at this level, and that he has enjoyed this season. He added that everyone is trying to return the club to the Premier League, with the fans crucial in making the final seven matches special.
