Kaizer Chiefs striker Luke Baartman has shared his excitement after finally making his much-anticipated Amakhosi debut against TS Galaxy in the Betway Premiership this past Sunday.
The 19-year-old forward, who joined on a free transfer from Cape Town Spurs, had to first overcome a legal tussle with the Urban Warriors, who demanded compensation despite their relegation to the amateur league.
Baartman was eventually cleared by the PSL DRC to feature for the Soweto giants, coming off the bench as an 80th-minute substitute against The Rockets in Chiefs' final fixture of 2025.
Reflecting on the milestone, ‘Boere’—as the striker is affectionately known—said stepping onto the pitch in the iconic Black and Gold kit was a proud reward for his relentless efforts in training.
“It felt great to be back on the pitch and it was a proud moment for me to wear the Chiefs jersey. After working hard over the past few months, finally playing for this massive club was truly rewarding,” Baartman told kaizerchiefs.com.
"Even though it wasn’t easy since I hadn’t played in a while, I felt I added something to our attack as we pressed to break down Galaxy’s defence."
Baartman will be aiming to add more minutes to his name when Chiefs welcome Golden Arrows on 20 January 2026, before making the trip to Zambia to take on ZESCO United in the CAF Confederation Cup a few days later.
