After facing back-to-back relegations to now find themselves in League One, Luton Town have had a disastrous couple of seasons but look to get back on track as they have made a positive start to their campaign, sitting just outside the play-off places.

The Hatters have been tipped as heavy promotion candidates as they have had a very positive summer transfer window, bringing in the likes of Nahki Wells, George Saville, and Jerry Yates to name a few.

With plenty of movement in personnel in their transition from the Championship to League One, a key area that needed reinforcements was the goalkeeper position.

With the reliable Thomas Kaminski making the move to The Valley to join Charlton Athletic, it left Luton in need of a number one keeper.

The Belgian international was a key figure at Kenilworth Road over the past two seasons as he made a real name for himself in their Premier League season in 2023/24.

However, after making the short trip down south to Charlton, Luton have turned to the young Josh Keeley to take his place - He's quickly become adored by all Luton fans in Bedfordshire.

After spending last season on loan at Leyton Orient, the 22-year-old Keeley joined the Hatters this summer and has quickly filled the role of being Luton's number one,

He has quickly taken to his new role in impressive fashion as the Irishman has kept four clean sheets in his opening six league games, making him already a fan favourite among Luton Town supporters.

With Keeley being so young, his inexperience came as a worry when first putting pen to paper, but he has since answered those critics with commanding performances, proving to be a brick wall between the sticks.

Upon signing for the Hatters, manager Matt Bloomfield had high expectations for Keeley, as he told the club website, "Josh is a young, agile, athletic goalkeeper who had a great season last year in League One... He is an excellent shot-stopper and can play out from the back and sweep up behind the defence."

The young goalkeeper made 39 league appearances for Leyton Orient, where he kept 16 clean sheets for the O's and has continued that impressive form into this season, and could well be the difference in Luton reaching their aspirations of an immediate return to the second tier.

Keeley has made a fast start to life in the orange of Luton Town, with the 22-year-old merely conceeding three goals in six matches, giving the Hatters the second-best defensive record in the league as of yet, behind fellow relegated side, Cardiff.

Luton fans have been mightily impressed with his consistent high performance levels, with many taking to X to share their praise for the youngster. One Luton Town fan account said, "Josh Keeley is immense. What a signing. We upgraded."

In reference to the Hatters' former keeper, Kaminski, Keeley looks to be like a steal of a signing from Tottenham Hotspur and with the Irishman being 22 years of age, they may just have found the answer to their long-term plan as to who occupies the role between the sticks.

Keeley has also been held in high regard by Republic of Ireland fans, who will sure see more of him on the international stage in the future. One fan commented via X, "Josh Keeley with an average Josh Keeley performance. Top class saves to win Luton the game whilst showing off his elite distribution. The kid can do it all, what a player!"
