Lyon must sell players before 30 June to raise at least 20 million euros.
According to L'Équipe, sales may need to be roughly triple by the end of August if they do not reach the Champions League. Paulo Fonseca values the club's scouts and will continue working on recruitment with sporting director Matthieu Louis-Jean.
Five players are regarded as off limits, barring an offer impossible to refuse: Dominik Greif, Moussa Niakhaté, Tyler Morton, Corentin Tolisso, and one of Malick Fofana or Afonso Moreira.
Nicolas Tagliafico, Ainsley Maitland-Niles, Orel Mangala, Malick Fofana or Afonso Moreira, Abner Vinicius, Pavel Sulc, Tanner Tessmann and Ruben Kluivert are attracting interest. Sales would also cut a wage bill that must fall and fund arrivals.
Lyon hope to refresh five to six squad places and add athleticism and pace. Targets include a centre-back, two full-backs, especially a right-back, a defensive midfielder and a young, quick striker.
Pre-season begins on 29 June for five weeks, with the focus on 4 or 5 August, the Champions League third qualifying round first leg. Niakhaté and Tagliafico will be suspended after red cards against Celta Vigo in the Europa League. Play-offs could follow as they chase a first group stage since 2020.
The club are considering a week in Germany or Austria in week three, and plan five to six friendlies. World Cup players Niakhaté, Sulc, Nuamah and Tagliafico will have up to three weeks off.
