Sunderland face significant contract decisions, with eight deals currently due to expire in summer 2026 as the club pauses for a two week break.

According to Sunderland Echo, the Black Cats are still buoyed by last weekend’s Tyne-Wear derby win at St James Park, where Brian Brobbey’s late goal completed a league double over Newcastle United. The victory almost saw them leapfrog their rivals, leaving them within three points of the top seven and a further three off the top five.

Seven games remain, with home fixtures against Tottenham Hotspur, Nottingham Forest, Manchester United and Chelsea, and trips to Aston Villa, Wolverhampton Wanderers and Everton before the campaign ends in May. Regis Le Bris continues his push for European qualification.

The hierarchy must now weigh up several long-term calls, with a number of players entering the final months of their current contracts. There was a major boost earlier this month when Dan Ballard signed a new long-term deal.

Contracts currently set to expire in summer 2026 are Simon Moore, Bertrand Traore, Lutsharel Geertruida (loan), Dennis Cirkin, Harrison Jones, Niall Huggins*, Zak Johnson*, and Dan Neil*. Asterisks denote players out on loan.

Further expiries fall in 2027, 2028, 2029 and 2030, covering names such as Reinildo Mandava, Luke O’Nien, Abdoullah Ba, Granit Xhaka, Wilson Isidor, Timothee Pembele, Anthony Patterson, Nordi Mukiele, Omar Alderete, Brian Brobbey, Enzo Le Fee and, in 2030, Trai Hume and Dan Ballard.
