Malice after Bayern’s first defeat: Augsburg mock Kane

FC Bayern’s first Bundesliga defeat of the season hurts – both on a sporting and emotional level. 2:1 against FC Augsburg was followed by mockery from their Bavarian neighbors of all teams

fC Bayern had been unbeaten in 27 Bundesliga games in a row and had not lost since March. This streak came to an end against FC Augsburg of all teams – and at home in the Allianz Arena. It is a bitter setback for the Munich side led by superstar Harry Kane, even if they still have a comfortable lead at the top of the table

While the FCA celebrated the away win in style, Augsburg couldn’t resist taking a swipe at the club’s official English-language X account, posting a jokey chat clearly aimed at Harry Kane. The punchline: a picture of the Bayern striker in response to the question „When are you coming?“ – with the explanation: „That means I’m not turning up.“

Kane remains pale – Augsburg uses the stage

The mockery did not come out of nowhere. Kane had an unusually poor day against FCA. The English goalscorer was almost invisible for 44 minutes of the first half: no shot on goal, no assist, hardly any tackles won. Overall, Bayern’s attacking play was lacking, the final pass was too infrequent and there was a lack of penetration

The overall situation remains clear: Kane is still the Bundesliga’s top scorer with 21 goals and has already scored 34 goals in all competitions. Augsburg, on the other hand, are in mid-table and have only 22 league goals to their name. The reactions to the post were correspondingly divided, with some users pointing out that Kane has scored more goals than FCA as a whole, while others responded to the side blow with laughing emojis

Coach Vincent Kompany was sober after the game and made no excuses. „We have to accept that it’s not our day today. We lost and we have to accept that properly,“ explained the Bayern coach. The defeat was painful, but did not change the fundamental starting position in the title race

In fact, Munich’s lead over Borussia Dortmund remains eight points, and the record champions still have no serious rivals in the league

Leverkusen also set a benchmark

Augsburg were not the only team to use the moment to take a swipe. Bayer Leverkusen also had their say on social media. The English account of the Werkself posted dryly: „List of unbeaten champions in Bundesliga history. 1st Bayer 04 Leverkusen. End of list.“

The background to this is the historic 2023/24 season, in which Leverkusen were the only club to become champions without defeat. Bayern can no longer repeat this feat in the current season

For FC Bayern, it is now a case of ticking off, recovering and reacting.
