Chelsea left-back Marc Cucurella has been linked with a move to Manchester City by the Daily Mail.

Cucurella is looking to leave Chelsea this summer, following another topsy-turvy season at Stamford Bridge, and the Etihad Stadium could be his new stomping ground.

The Spanish international defender has been linked with a return to his homeland, but it appears Man City will throw their hat in the ring for the Chelsea man.

Chelsea had pipped Man City to the signing of Cucurella, and if these reports are to be believed, the Cityzens are out to make amends by securing his services.

The West Londoners are not prepared to hold onto anyone who wants to leave under Xabi Alonso and won’t fuss if he pushes for an exit.

With two years left on his current deal, Chelsea know this is the best time to sell or get him to sign a new deal.

Cucurella’s technical limitations make him a very expendable player in the squad, though Valentin Barco is not really the right profile to replace him.

From City’s perspective, the interest feels completely unnecessary.

They already have multiple solutions on the left side and do not need to spend heavily on another player who would only complicate the depth chart.

Nico O’Reilly emerged as one of the brightest stories of their season, proving he can handle senior football, offering energy, physicality and technical quality from that flank.

The club also recently invested in Rayan Ait-Nouri, a specialist attacking left-back entering his prime.

Then there is Josko Gvardiol, who they reportedly want to keep despite interest from Spain.

The Croatian has already shown he can dominate games from left-back while still tucking inside as an extra centre-half.

Adding the Chelsea cult hero to all that feels excessive.

City have bigger priorities elsewhere in the squad, and this move risks blocking the pathway of younger, more exciting options.
