Man City midfielder Rodri has revealed he would "pay attention" to a potential offer from Real Madrid.

The freshly crowned Ballon d'Or winner is currently sidelined with an anterior cruciate ligament tear but remains a highly coveted player. Real Madrid were linked with a move for the defensive midfielder before his injury and Rodri has done nothing to dampen the speculation during his recent press tour.

"Obviously, when Real Madrid calls you, the best club in history and the most successful, with what it means, it is an honour," the Spain international told Catalan radio station Cadena Ser this week. "You always have to pay attention. That much is clear."

Rodri had been more tight-lipped regarding the transfer speculation when quizzed on the subject in September. City are intent on keeping the transformative midfielder at the club for the foreseeable future and are expected to offer the 28-year-old a new deal imminently. Manager Pep Guardiola committed his future to the club on Thursday, which Rodri admitted may have an impact on his own decision.

"I have two years left on my contract," the midfielder explained, "the time is approaching to start talking again. The Guardiola deal is an important incentive."

City's totem added: "It is a joy that Pep has decided to continue. He is the most influential coach of my career. It is a joy for the club and for all the Cityzens. I know him and when I signed for them they told me that he was only going to be there for a few years and I was going to go, I already knew it wasn't going to be like that."

The Madrid-born player spent a total of seven years at Atletico Madrid, coming through the club's academy before enjoying one season in the first team. The Euro 2024 champion is a proud patriot. "It may be a possibility to finish my career in England, I feel very loved," Rodri reasoned. "But Spain is my country. I always pay attention to La Liga, the level of the teams is getting better and better."
