Holders Newcastle must oveturn a two-goal deficit when they travel to Manchester City for their EFL Cup semi-final second leg on Wednesday night. Get three Opta stats and three tips for the Etihad Stadium clash...

Man City v NewcastleWednesday 4 Jan, 20:00 kick-offLive on Sky Sports

Manchester City squandered a two-goal advantage against Tottenham in the Premier League on Sunday, so what are the chances of their leaky defence letting slip their two-goal lead from the first leg of this EFL Cup semi-final tie against holders Newcastle? Pep Guardiola's men are 1/80 to qualify while Eddie Howe's team are 10/1 to reach the final.

The Magpies will need to be at their attacking best at the Etihad Stadium on Wednesday, if they're to have any chance of turning this around. This is not a venue where Newcastle have a good record over the past decade (see stats below), so it is going to take a mammoth effort and a lot of self-belief to pull off the upset.

But City are not infallible, as their recent record of one win in six in the Premier League shows, and Newcastle must try to exploit their hosts' leaky defence. The following is just a short stats based preview of the match. For a more in-depth look ahead to the match, and to get the best bets, read Lewis Jones' preview.

Bet #1 - Back City to extend strong record

The Stat

Manchester City have won 17 of their last 18 home games against Newcastle in all competitions, including each of the last 11 in a row since a 2-0 loss in the EFL Cup fourth round in 2014-15.

The Bet

Bet #2 - Back Gordon to assist in bet builder

The Stat

Despite playing fewer than half the minutes available this season (144/360), no Newcastle player has created more chances in the EFL Cup this season than Anthony Gordon (6), while only Bruno Guimarães (11) and Joelinton (9) have had more shots (6).

The Bet

Bet #3 - Back Cherki to strike again

The Stat

Rayan Cherki has scored in all three of his EFL Cup games so far. The last Man City player to score in four consecutive appearances in the competition was Yaya Touré, which were also his first four between September 2013 and September 2014.
