The agent of Alvaro Carreras denied that his client will return to Manchester United before making a subsequent transfer to Real Madrid.

The Spaniard started his career at Espanyol and then joined Los Merengues’ youth academy, before being poached by the Red Devils in the summer of 2020.

The left-back was on United’s books for four years, and this included loan spells at Preston, Granada and Benfica, before making his move to the Portuguese giants permanent last summer.

The 22-year-old has been an instant hit in Lisbon, establishing himself as a regular starter in Bruno Lage’s lineup. He has thus far made 47 appearances this season, scoring four goals and providing his teammates with five assists.

In recent days, a report from Diario AS claimed that Madrid have identified Carreras as the ideal profile to bolster their fullback department, and they intend to involve Man Utd in an attempt to lower the cost.

The Spanish source claims that Benfica have set their price at €50 million, a figure that the Spanish giants don’t intend to meet. Nevertheless, Man Utd have an option to buy back the player for €18 million, and they would be happy to sell him for €30-35 million, thus registering a swift windfall.

Agent denies Alvaro Carreras double transfer

This operation would provide the Red Devils with a pure profit that could reach £14.5 million. Nevertheless, the agent of Carreras dismissed the whole theory.

“I don’t know where this news comes from, everything that is said in it is pure fantasy and, as such, does not deserve any comment from me,” said Gines Carvajal in his interview with A Bola.

“Carreras is doing very well at Benfica and will continue at the club.”

Hence, United won’t be receiving an easy boost from Carreras’ complex operation after all, but will have to raise funds by offloading some of the players who are currently on their books, the likes of Antony, Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho.
