With the international break now behind us, Manchester United will resume their campaign at one of their most hostile grounds, as they take on their arch-rivals Liverpool at Anfield.
The Reds had started their campaign on a brilliant note, winning their first five Premier League fixtures. However, they’re now surprisingly riding a three-match losing streak across all competitions, having lost to Crystal Palace, Galatasaray and Chelsea before the international break.
On the other hand, the Red Devils had received an important morale boost thanks to a 2-0 win over Sunderland.
But while Ruben Amorim’s men managed to showcase some promising signs in that particular fixture, it’s not enough to wash away all the disappointing displays produced since the start of the campaign.
Therefore, Man Utd will be hellbent on confirming their improving form by making a statement at the home of their most fierce rivals.
So how will Amorim line up his men?
Following his impressive debut against the Black Cats, Senne Lammens has swiftly become the undisputed first choice between the posts. Moreover, Leny Yoro, Matthijs de Ligt and Luke Shaw will likely keep their spots at the back, while Harry Maguire will have to settle for a seat in the dugout.
In the middle of the park, Kobbie Mainoo has likely lost all hope of gaining a starting berth at this stage. Bruno Fernandes and Casemiro should combine once more, albeit Manuel Ugarte could enter Amorim’s considerations, at least if Casemiro returns tired from international duty.
On the wings, Patrick Dorgu will be hoping to regain his spot on the left, but the Portuguese boss will likely opt to keep Diogo Dalot in this role, with Amad Diallo operating on the other flank. The Ivorian produced a memorable performance in Man United’s previous appearance at Anfield, so Amorim might be reluctant to drop him.
Finally, the unlikely attacking trio of Benjamin Sesko, Bryan Mbeumo and Mason Mount should be confirmed, especially after delivering the goods against Sunderland.
Matheus Cunha is the biggest victim of this emerging trident, but his exhausting international break schedule will give Amorim the alibi to keep him on the bench without causing a major stir.
Man United predicted XI (3-4-2-1): Lammens; Yoro, De Ligt, Shaw; Amad, Casemiro, Bruno, Dalot; Mbeumo, Mount; Sesko
