In the modern Champions League history, Real Madrid’s ultimate feat of winning three back to back Champions League titles from 2016 to 2018 will perhaps remain the greatest achievement.

Current Manchester United midfielder Casemiro was one of the star protagonists of Real Madrid’s epic run, playing a key role in Zinedine Zidane’s midfield alongside Luka Modric.

Now, in a recent interview, the Brazilian has revealed an incredible anecdote about Modric and how he always believed that Real Madrid were capable of securing three back-to-back titles.

What Modric told Casemiro

Speaking about the 2016 final in Milan, Casemiro shared a story he had never told publicly before, detailing a private conversation in the dressing room just moments after the team had defeated Atletico Madrid.

“I’m going to tell you something I never said in any interview: After the UCL final in Milan vs Atlético Madrid, we were celebrating in the dressing room, and Luka Modrić came up to us and said: ‘Friends, we have to win two more UCL’s now,’” he said (h/t Madrid Xtra).

He explained that the rest of the team, celebrating their second title in three years, was stunned by the Croatian’s insatiable hunger.

“We told him, ‘Come on Luka, we’ve won two almost in a row since Lisbon,’” Casemiro said.

But Modrić was serious. He knew the potential of the team and demanded they make history.

“He replied: ‘No, no. With this great team we have, we have to take advantage & make history by winning at least two more in a row.’”

As Casemiro concluded, Modric’s vision became reality. “We then won the 12th in Cardiff & the 13th in Kyiv. In a row. Luka knew.

Much to the disappointment of Real Madrid fans, the iconic midfield trio of Casemiro, Toni Kroos and Modric is no longer part of the club. While Kroos retired, Casemiro is playing for Man United while Modric left the club last summer to join AC Milan.
