Manchester United would have to pay manager Ruben Amorim £12 million to dismiss him in the first year of his contract, according to the Daily Mail.

The Red Devils have started the 2025/26 season poorly, and doubts persist about whether the Portuguese tactician is the right man to lead the team.

United have collected just 31 points from 31 league games under Amorim. He has been accused of hiding when the going gets tough and is overly emotional after defeats.

There have been links to Marco Silva, Oliver Glasner, Unai Emery and Andoni Iraola, but paying £12m to dismiss Amorim and more to hire another coach would take its toll on Man Utd’s coffers.

The Man United hierarchy is reportedly not panicking despite enduring their worst start in 33 years. They believe the statistics show improvement this season, and results will improve soon.

The Red Devils are currently first in the Premier League for total shots and touches in the opposition box, second for expected goals and open play xG and fourth for shots on target.

Amorim will know that results must improve in the coming games against Chelsea, Brentford, Sunderland and Liverpool.

If there are no significant improvements, the Portuguese tactician could be out of a job.

Having been bolstered by big-money additions, including Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo, Benjamin Sesko, Diego Leon and Senne Lammens, they must start delivering the goods.

United’s hierarchy may be backing Amorim now, but something has to give if they lose to Chelsea in front of their home fans after the 3-0 loss to Manchester City.
