Man Utd and Newcastle vie for Chelsea midfielder Santos | OneFootball

Manchester United and Newcastle United are both interested in signing Chelsea midfielder Andrey Santos.

Santos struggled for a regular role at Chelsea last season but has attracted notable suitors across the Premier League.

Manchester United have identified the Brazilian as an option to add to their midfield, after missing out on Elliot Anderson and Mateus Fernandes. The Red Devils have made contact with Bournemouth to discuss Alex Scott, and also have Santos as a potential option.

The latter made only 13 league starts last season with Moises Caicedo and Enzo Fernandez providing stern competition at Chelsea.

His sale could raise funds for Xabi Alonso as the Spaniard looks to restructure his squad at Chelsea. The new head coach is keen to add players at centre-back, left-back and in midfield.

According to The Guardian, Chelsea could entertain offers of around £50m for Santos, with Newcastle also monitoring the situation. Newcastle want to add a box-to-box midfielder with Sandro Tonali set to leave St James’ Park for Tottenham.

Santos is said to be open to leave Chelsea for more minutes, after missing out on a place in the Brazil squad for this summer’s World Cup.
