And Carrick says the Denmark international is now set for a spell on the sidelines.

“Pat [Dorgu] will be out for a period of time, still working through how long that will be,” he said.

“We weren’t sure whether it was cramp or a little more serious, at the moment it looks a little more on the serious note. How many weeks, we will have to see.”

Defender Mathjis de Ligt is also set to miss out again against Fulham having yet to return to training.

“He’s not training with us yet, just working through the process of getting him back as soon as we can,” Carrick said.

But in a boost for United, forward Joshua Zirkzee is back available.

“Joshua Zirkzee is back training this week which is good news, the first time as he’s been out for a short amount of time,” Carrick said.

“Great to have him back.
