Michael Carrick has confirmed Lisandro Martinez’s return to training ahead of Monday’s meeting with Leeds United at Old Trafford. According to yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk, the centre-back has been involved during a Dublin camp.
Leeds, winless in the league for two months, arrive buoyed by Sunday’s FA Cup quarter-final shootout win at West Ham. United had no FA Cup commitments and are now into their third week without a competitive match.
Martinez, a £56.7m signing from Ajax in 2022, has missed the last five matches with a calf issue and could feature against Leeds. He took part in an open training session on Tuesday. Harry Maguire will serve a one-match ban after his red card at Bournemouth.
“Talking of defenders, Licha [Martinez] is back in training today as well, obviously after a few games out, positive to have him back ahead of the next set of games,” Carrick said. He was speaking to Inside Carrington.
It remains to be seen if Martinez’s fellow defender Patrick Dorgu will be available, with the full-back yet to train after eight games out with a hamstring injury.
Benjamin Sesko and Bryan Mbeumo missed international duty with Slovenia and Cameroon, but are in Dublin and expected to be fit for Leeds. Matthijs De Ligt did not travel due to a back injury that has sidelined him since November.
Leeds are assessing Anton Stach and Joe Rodon after West Ham, while Gabriel Gudmundsson was not risked and Daniel James is likely to miss out with an adductor strain.
