Talks are set to begin within days after other candidates are contacted
Manchester United have made a decision on Michael Carrick becoming their new manager.
The former United midfielder has impressed since taking interim charge in January, following the sacking of Ruben Amorim, guiding the club to Champions League qualification with games to spare.
Wrapping up a top-three finish is now the target, with just one point needed across their final two games of the season against Nottingham Forest and Brighton.
And United bosses have been sufficiently impressed to begin talks over making Carrick the permanent manager.
According to Sky Sports, formal discussions are expected to begin between all parties ahead of United's final game of the season, which takes place on May 24.
The report adds that it is not a guarantee that Carrick will land the job, with United having reached out to other potential candidates.
But talks will Carrick are being prioritised, seemingly placing the head coach in pole position for the job.
The United hierarchy have reportedly been impressed with how Carrick has handled the pressures of the job, from man-management of the squad to dealing with media responsibilities.
A number of first-team players have come out in support of Carrick being appointed full-time, while the deciding factor was always going to be results, and Carrick has won 10 of his 15 games in charge and lost just two.
The Mail add that Carrick’s backroom team will also all be kept on, including Steve Holland, Jonathan Woodgate, Jonny Evans and Travis Binnion.
