While the club shelled out over £100 million to bolster the forward department at Old Trafford over the last two summers, it’s expected Manchester United will again be on the market for a centre-forward come the end of the season.

It may, however, mean parting ways with £64m acquisition Rasmus Hojlund, who has left club chiefs unconvinced in his goalscoring abilities after netting only twice in 19 Premier League appearances this campaign – the most recent contribution coming all the way back at the start of December.

Reports over in Italy have suggested a return to Serie A might be on the cards for the ex-Atalanta star, with Juventus already eyeing Hojlund as a potential successor to Dusan Vlahovic amid interest from Arsenal.

In terms of the options United may turn to, they were heavily linked with longstanding target Victor Osimhen throughout the winter window and could revive their pursuit of the Nigerian upon the culmination of 2024/2025.

How United plan to resolve their No.9 dilemma

Osimhen, 26, is currently enjoying a season-long loan spell with Galatasaray, where he’s added another 17 goals to extend his career record to 131 in 246 appearances, making it no surprise he’s classed as one of the most prolific No.9s in world football.

TBR Football claims Napoli, whom he is still contracted to until June 2026, would be open to a swap deal to sanction his exit once and for all following his notorious fallout with Antonio Conte last summer.

With Conte seemingly uninterested in making amends with his player, the door has never been more open for Osimhen to seal his desired exit away from Naples – and United are waiting in the wings to present their proposal.

TBR’s report adds the Red Devils would be willing to offer both Hojlund and Alejandro Garnacho, the subject of a £40m rejected bid from Napoli in January, to sign Osimhen on a long-term deal in the hope of finally putting a definitive end to their goalscoring predicament.
