In a recent report, Bild stated that Manchester City are among the clubs hoping to sign Borussia Dortmund defender Nico Schlotterbeck. It is believed that the Mancunian club are facing competition from Real Madrid, Bayern Munich and Liverpool in the race to recruit the German centre-back next year.
Schlotterbeck enjoyed a good run of form at the German club in the previous campaign when he produced a handful of solid displays for them in the Bundesliga. The 25-year-old was involved in 37 matches for Borussia Dortmund last season, securing six assists in various competitions.
The German talent was a dominant presence on the defensive end of the field as he made 38 tackles, 31 blocks, 22 interceptions and 79 clearances in the Bundesliga. He has even been tidy when distributing the ball from the back, as evidenced by his pass completion rate of 89.2% in the German first division (stats via fbref.com).
His current contract at the German club will run out in the summer of 2027. Thus, Man City could potentially sign him on a cut-price deal at the end of this campaign.

Schlotterbeck loves a tackle and can scan the danger well to earn the ball back for his team inside his half. He doesn’t mind putting his foot through the ball when required and is proficient at playing his way out from the back.
The German defensive ace can even use his strong 1.91m frame to dominate the opposition attackers in the air. However, there are some concerns over whether he can maintain his good form in the Premier League.
Schlotterbeck would add more bite and steel to Man City boss Pep Guardiola’s defence. He has what it takes to challenge for regular first-team football at the Mancunian club over the next few years.
At 25, Schlotterbeck has his peak years ahead of him, which makes him a decent option for Man City to consider this January or at the end of this campaign. With all things considered, he would be well worth the fight, so Guardiola would be wise to step up his efforts to land him next year.
