In a recent report, The Telegraph revealed that Manchester City are in talks to sign Newcastle United midfielder Sandro Tonali. It has been claimed that the Mancunian club are facing competition in the form of Tottenham Hotspur in pursuit of the Italy international this summer.

Tonali’s Solid Season In The Premier League

The 26-year-old enjoyed a good run of form at the Tyneside club last season when he put in a handful of influential displays for them in the middle of the park. Tonali scored three times and earned seven assists in 53 matches for Newcastle in the previous campaign across multiple competitions.

The Italian talent is currently one of the most talented midfielders in Premier League football. Hence, it is no surprise that the Mancunian giants are eager to get a deal done for him later this year.

His current contract at St. James’ Park will run out in the summer of 2028, which could make it tough for Man City to sign him on the cheap in this transfer window.

What Will Tonali Bring To Manchester City?

Tonali is a tough-tackling midfielder who can read the danger well to make some important interceptions for his side at the centre of the park. He doesn’t mind clearing his lines when the opposition are on the front foot and is a good passer as well.

The Italy international can shoot the ball with power from long range and has got the vision to unlock the opposition defence with a killer pass in the final third. Tonali can contribute by scoring and creating his fair share of goals from midfield. He mainly plays as a defensive midfielder but can also serve as a box-to-box midfielder if asked to do so by his manager.

We can expect Tonali to bring more quality and depth to Man City’s midfield. He is good enough to serve as an ideal replacement for Bernardo Silva at the Mancunian club and is more than capable of nailing down a first-team spot at the Etihad Stadium next season.

At 26, Tonali has his best years ahead of him, which makes him a decent choice for Man City to pursue in this transfer period, but only if they can get him for a reasonable price.
