A trio of England international stars have received a special message of good luck ahead of the weekend’s European Championships final in Berlin.

Gareth Southgate’s squad have made history once again by reaching the final of the European Championships in consecutive tournaments, with Spain their opponents in Sunday’s showpiece final in the German capital.

The tournament has brought about mixed fortunes for the Three Lions, who were on the verge of losing their support early on in the competition through lacklustre performances and a lack of cutting edge and attacking intent in contests.

But the nation’s never-say-die attitude towards matches has ultimately got them through, with late equalisers and winning goals in several contests, as well as a dramatic turnaround of fortunes in the semi-final meeting with the Netherlands last time out.

That clash also featured starring performances from Phil Foden and Kobbie Mainoo in the centre of the park, whilst Cole Palmer has also shone when called upon this summer – a trio of players hailing from Stockport in Manchester.

Speaking ahead of Sunday night’s European Championships final between England and Spain in Berlin, the leader of Stockport Council, councillor Mark Hunter has sent a special message of best wishes to a trio of local heroes shining for Gareth Southgate’s squad in Germany.

“We may be slightly biased but we believe that Stockport is a very special place to produce talent such as Stockport’s very own three lions in Phil Foden, Kobbie Mainoo and Cole Palmer, who are on the verge of sporting greatness and looking towards success over Spain in the final on Sunday,” Hunter exclaimed in a new statement.

He continued, “Stockport is incredibly proud of all of its hometown heroes and has championed Phil Foden for a number of years, so we’re delighted to see Kobbie and Cole join Phil in becoming yet another alumni of Stockport to become an England international.

“We wish our young three lions and the rest of the England team the very best for Sunday – Stockport is behind you!”

All three of the Manchester City and Manchester United Academy graduates were educated in the Stockport region, with Phil Foden having attended Bridge Hall Primary and Stockport Academy as a youngster, Kobbie Mainoo at Cheadle Catholic Infants and Juniors and St James High School, Cheadle, as well as Cole Palmer at Gatley Primary School.
