Pep Guardiola takes his Manchester City side over to the east of Spain this week for matchday three of the UEFA Champions League’s league phase.

City will be wanting to extend not only their existing eight-match unbeaten streak across competitions, running since the end of August, when they take on Villarreal but also return to winning ways in the European tournament.

Having defeated Napoli on matchday one of the competition courtesy of goals from Erling Haaland and Jeremy Doku, City were held to a frustrating 2-2 draw in the south of France through a late equalising goal from Eric Dier from the penalty spot.

As for City’s last outing in all competitions, the Etihad witnessed a largely routine 2-0 win over Everton on Saturday afternoon, in a game that really should have seen Haaland record yet another hat-trick having missed multiple late opportunities to add to his second-half brace.

Villarreal is expected to present a much stronger test of Manchester City’s trophy-winning credentials this week, as the La Liga side come into the clash third in the Spanish top-flight, despite being held to a 2-2 home draw against Real Betis at the weekend.

Now, Pep Guardiola and Manchester City have confirmed a 22-man travelling squad list that left Manchester Airport on Monday afternoon destined for the east of Spain ahead of the clash with Villarreal on Tuesday night!
