Manchester City have expressed an interest to sign Rosenborg star Sverre Nypan in upcoming summer transfer window, according to new reports.
With Kevin De Bruyne, Ilkay Gundogan and Bernardo Silva all facing uncertain futures in the North-West, Pep Guardiola is expected to add fresh blood to an ageing midfield in a bid to challenge on all fronts next season following a disappointing 2024/25 campaign.
Matheus Nunes and Mateo Kovacic have done well to fill in since their respective arrivals at the Etihad Stadium but both could be moved on in the summer – with Manchester City set for a major overhaul across all areas of the pitch.
Bayer Leverkusen’s Florian Wirtz and Eintracht Frankfurt’s Hugo Larsson have reportedly been identified as two primary targets to strengthen the midfield, with the former eyed as a competent long-term replacement for Kevin De Bruyne.
Now, according to the information of journalist Graeme Bailey for TBR Football, Manchester City have made an approach for Norwegian midfielder Sverre Nypan to bolster their options in the middle of the park.
It is understood that Nypan has attracted interest from Manchester City’s recent Premier League title rivals Arsenal, who are confident they can lure the 18-year-old to the Emirates Stadium and fend off interest from other clubs.
Rosenborg are understood to have placed an asking price south of £20 million for their teenage sensation – which is set to have a long list of Europe’s best clubs line up in pursuit of the Norwegian.
Manchester City are somewhat wishful that their own Norwegian duo at the Etihad Stadium comprising of Erling Haaland and Oscar Bobb could give him a helping hand in their pursuit of Nypan.
After returning to winning ways courtesy of a 0-1 win away at Tottenham in midweek, Manchester City face Championship strugglers Plymouth Argyle in the fifth round of the FA Cup on Saturday evening.
The Blues are eyeing domestic silverware to finish an underwhelming campaign on a high, having succumbed to Real Madrid in the UEFA Champions League play-off stage and runaway leaders Liverpool having one hand on the Premier League title.
