Manchester City are weighing up a move for Chelsea right-back Malo Gusto.

According to transfer reporter Ben Jacobs, City want to add a new specialist in the position and are exploring several targets. Newcastle’s Tino Livramento is another name on their shortlist. The interest fits a clear need.

Matheus Nunes filled in admirably at right-back last season, but the hierarchy wants a dedicated option. Sporting director Hugo Viana has led the search throughout the off-season.

Manchester City eye Chelsea’s Malo Gusto in Maresca reunion

New manager Enzo Maresca appears central to the Gusto link. The Italian worked closely with the 23-year-old during his time as Chelsea boss, and the two are said to have been close. That familiarity is seen as a key factor in City’s appeal.

A deal is far from straightforward, though. Chelsea value Gusto at £45m or more, and he is currently away at the World Cup with France. The Blues are open to offers; however, they are confident they can find a replacement.

The Frenchman’s situation has shifted recently. Reports indicate his agent has held talks with a number of clubs about a possible exit. Chelsea’s willingness to listen has grown following the arrival of Atalanta full-back Marco Palestra.

City face competition for his signature. Inter Milan are also said to be advanced in their own pursuit, raising the prospect of a race before Gusto returns from international duty. Gusto is not the only option on the table.

Beyond Livramento, City have monitored alternatives including Feyenoord’s Givairo Read. The breadth of the shortlist reflects how determined they are to fill the role.

The pursuit forms part of a wider reset under Maresca. City have already seen Bernardo Silva leave and are chasing Nottingham Forest’s Elliot Anderson, with the new boss reshaping a squad built by Pep Guardiola.
