Supporters of Manchester City have now voiced their opinions on X as to who they would like Director of Football Hugo Viana to bring into the club next this summer.
While the club continues to work methodically through their transfer strategy, those watching from the outside are already keen to push the agenda further as the brand new Premier League season closes in for Pep Guardiola and his players.
Manchester City are currently five signings deep into the ongoing transfer window, having added a mix of senior and youth talent across several positions, with eyes now firmly on the next possible name through the door.
The most recent arrival is 18-year-old Sverre Nypan, a Norwegian midfielder signed from Rosenborg in a deal worth £12.5 million, with no add-ons or sell-on clauses involved in an agreement that has seen the teenager sign a five-year deal running until the summer of 2030.
While a loan move is being explored, Sverre Nypan is expected to report for first-team pre-season training on 28 July and could feature in the club’s upcoming friendly against Palermo on 9 August.
Manchester City’s recruitment drive so far this year has focused on shoring up depth while maintaining long-term squad sustainability. That includes the arrivals of midfield prospect Claudio Echeverri and young defender Vitor Reis.
But as Manchester City confirm their fifth signing of the ongoing summer transfer window in Norwegian starlet Sverre Nypan, attentions are already turning towards who could follow the 18-year-old into the Etihad Stadium next.
That was the question put to Manchester City supporters on social media this week by City Xtra, with hundreds of responses and several names repeated among the answers throughout the last 24 hours.
Among the most common suggestions, fans have clearly highlighted a desire for right-back reinforcement. Tino Livramento of Newcastle United was mentioned frequently, with some supporters favouring the England Under-21 international for his Premier League readiness.
Others pointed to Crystal Palace’s Daniel Muñoz or Inter Milan’s Denzel Dumfries as more experienced solutions, while another name floated for a potential full-back upgrade was Juventus and Italy international Andrea Cambiaso – linked with other Premier League clubs earlier this summer and viewed as a dynamic, multi-role option down either flank.
Goalkeeping was another hot topic in the replies, reflecting the ongoing uncertainty around Ederson’s future. Several City fans put forward Diogo Costa of FC Porto, who remains one of the most heavily reported names on City’s shortlist. Lille’s Lucas Chevalier and former City prospect James Trafford — now at Burnley — were also suggested as alternatives.
In more ambitious territory, Real Madrid’s Rodrygo emerged as a dream target for some sections of the fanbase, especially amid speculation over potential attacking outgoings. The 24-year-old Brazil international would represent a marquee-level signing, though there is currently no suggestion of Madrid being open to a sale at present.
Closer to home, Crystal Palace’s Eberechi Eze — a player City have long admired — was also a name of interest among supporters. With his Premier League experience and ability to operate between midfield and attack, fans believe the England international could add flair and depth to Pep Guardiola’s options in the final third.
City’s actual movements in the market may well be dictated by outgoings. As it stands, Jack Grealish continues to draw interest, including from Everton and West Ham, while Ederson could be sold should the right offer arrive — with Galatasaray and Saudi Arabia monitoring the situation.
