Negotiations over the Brazilian’s transfer have slowed

Manchester City have been knocked back in their pursuit of Gianluigi Donnarumma as new reports suggest Ederson’s move to Galatasaray has hit a snag.

Pep Guardiola had hoped to add Donnarumma to his squad this summer after he was left out of Luis Enrique’s plans at Paris Saint-Germain, and has reportedly agreed personal terms with City.

A move, though, was contingent on Ederson’s departure, which now appears less likely than first thought. He had been closing in on a move to Turkish side Galatasaray and was left out of Man City’s squad for Saturday’s visit to Wolves as the deal progressed. He was deputised by the newly re-signed James Trafford.

But new reports hint that talks have hit a bump in the road, leading Galatasaray to move on to new targets.

They have lodged a formal bid for Diogo Costa, worth €20m (£17.2m) plus add-ons, according to Sky Germany.

The 25-year-old Portuguese international currently plies his trade at Porto, and made 32 appearances last season as the club finished third in the Liga Portugal. He also saved a spot-kick from Alvaro Morata as the Selecao piped Spain to the Nations League title earlier this summer.

All is not lost for City, though. The report adds that Ederson remains Galatasaray’s first-choice target, though they are not confident in completing a deal, leading them to explore alternative options.

Ederson’s eight years at City have been suitably trophy-laden, so far yielding six Premier League titles, four League Cup titles, two FA Cups, and one Champions League title.

Speaking after Saturday’s rout of Wolves, Guardiola said of the player: "If the player wants to leave he has to leave, but on the conditions of the club.

"There is no sense if he is not happy here but the final decision and the way to make the deal belongs 100% to the club, so I don't know what will happen in the next two weeks.”
