Manchester City have been informed that Morgan Gibbs-White can move to the Etihad Stadium for £70 million this summer, as per a new report.

Gibbs-White was subject to interest from east Manchester last summer, when Hugo Viana made sweeping changes to Pep Guardiola’s first-team ranks upon his appointment as the club’s director of football in the backdrop of a disappointing 2024-25 season.

City identified Gibbs-White as a potent addition to their attacking midfield roster after the notable departure of Kevin De Bruyne, with Florian Wirtz also earmarked as a potential successor for the Belgian before he eventually joined Premier League champions Liverpool.

However, executives at the Etihad Stadium pulled out of the race for the England international owing to Nottingham Forest’s hefty asking price, instead prioritising relatively economic deals for Rayan Cherki and Tijjani Reijnders.

Gibbs-White attracted strong interest from Tottenham in the closing weeks of the recent summer transfer window. A deal was agreed between the clubs but broke down at the eleventh hour, with the 26-year-old signing a new deal at the City Ground.

Nottingham Forest have endured a difficult season, having parted company with managers Ange Postecoglou and Sean Dyche as they navigate a tricky Premier League campaign that could be Gibbs-White’s final campaign at the club.

The playmaker is expected to leave Forest at the end of the season to progress his career and he will not have a dearth of suitors, with Football Insider reporting that Manchester City also in the race to sign Gibbs-White ahead of the 2026-27 campaign.

Speaking on Football Insider’s Transfer Insider podcast, Pete O’Rourke said: “Yeah, it’s gonna be an interesting one with regards to Morgan Gibbs-White’s long term future.

“There’s always going to be interest in a player like Gibbs-White. Although Forest won’t want to lose him, I’m sure they’ll probably will be expecting interest in him.

“There’s obviously talk that Tottenham could rekindle their interest, Manchester City have been long-term admirers of the player as well.

“I think Morgan Gibbs-White, he’s going to have no shortage of interest if he wants to leave Nottingham Forest as well but it’ll take a big money deal to get him out.

“Whether or not Forest are relegated, you’re probably looking around the £60-70 million mark for any club interested in Gibbs-White – and there will be a number of Premier League clubs who will be interested in the former Wolves man.”

Gibbs-White will be vying for a strong finish to the season to receive a call up to the England squad for the FIFA World Cup in the United States, Canada and Mexico. However, it is highly likely that the Englishman will not be playing for Forest next term.
