It is well known that Manchester City have lost their past three games in all competitions. Their 4-1 defeat at the hands of Sporting CP on Tuesday evening was one of City’s worst in recent memory. Pep Guardiola’s side faces a tough away trip this weekend to the Amex Stadium. City will take on Brighton who will fancy their chances of continuing City’s winless run. Saturday’s match is the perfect opportunity for Manchester City to regain some momentum ahead of the upcoming international break.
Before losses against Tottenham, Bournemouth and Sporting CP Pep Guardiola’s side had made an impressive start to the 24/25 season. Although it had appeared that the champions weren’t in their best form during wins over Fulham, Wolves and Southampton. A report from Jack Gaughan for the Daily Mail indicates that some senior players are said to have ‘had their heads down’ when at the training ground in recent weeks. But after their heavy defeat to Sporting CP, it is time for the City players to snap out of it.
Awaiting them this weekend is a Brighton side who will be eager to take the scalp of the champions. Brighton manager Fabian Hurzeler believes the game is an opportunity for his impressive Brighton side to challenge the establishment in the Premier League. Speaking during his pre-game press conference he said: “Of course, we have a lot of respect. City is, for me, still the best team in the world, they have the best manager in the world. But in the end, it’s a game, and we play at home, and we want to continue our process, and we see this as a next opportunity to challenge the establishment.”
Brighton will pose a tricky test for a wounded Manchester City. The Seagulls currently sit 8th in the Premier League table after their opening 10 games of the season. Although they lost to Liverpool at Anfield 2-1 last weekend they did put in an impressive performance. They have caught the eye this season under Hurzeler. Brighton will be no pushover at the Amex Stadium this weekend.
But Manchester City must bounce back to regain some of their early season momentum. The game isn’t one that will decide or end City’s title challenge by any stretch but a win at the Amex Stadium would regain some momentum for Pep Guardiola’s side. It will also go a long way in restoring some confidence in the world champions. A massive test awaits City this weekend. It is time they responded to a week.of bad results with a good performance against Brighton.
