Speaking to the press this Tuesday, Pep Guardiola was questioned about Manchester City's spending during the winter transfer window.

This winter, Manchester City splashed out nearly €100 million to sign Marc Guéhi and Antoine Semenyo. When asked during the press conference about yet another big-spending window for his club, Josep Guardiola responded with a hint of mischief.

"I'm a little sad and annoyed because, in terms of net spending over the last five years, we're only seventh in the Premier League. I want to be first! I don't understand why the club isn't spending more money. It makes me a bit grumpier towards them," said the Catalan manager.

Over this five-year period, Manchester City is actually the second biggest spender in England (€1.10 billion), trailing only Chelsea (€1.83 billion). Thanks to their sales (€638.75 million), City holds the seventh-worst net balance in the Premier League (-€459.55 million), behind Manchester United (-€782.92 million), Arsenal (-€769.91 million), Chelsea (-€755.11 million), Tottenham (-€665.98 million), Newcastle (-€492.44 million), and Liverpool (-€487.85 million).
