Manchester City’s players will refund the cost of tickets for supporters who travelled to Norway to watch Tuesday’s Champions League defeat by Bodo/Glimt, BBC Sport reports.

A total of 374 City fans made the trip to the Arctic Circle for the 3-1 loss, with each ticket costing around £25. The squad will cover the full £9,357 cost.

The decision was made by the club’s captaincy group of Bernardo Silva, Ruben Dias, Rodri, and Erling Haaland, who spoke on behalf of the players.

In a statement, they thanked supporters for their commitment and recognised the effort involved in travelling such a long distance in freezing conditions.

Our supporters mean everything to us,” the statement said. “We know the sacrifice fans make to follow the team home and away, and we will never take that for granted.”

The gesture has been praised by Manchester City’s official supporters’ club, which said it showed the close relationship between the players and fans, especially after a difficult result.

City suffered one of the biggest shocks in the Champions League with the defeat and now need to beat Galatasaray in their final group game to secure a top-eight finish.

Striker Erling Haaland apologised to fans after the match, calling the performance “embarrassing” and admitting Bodo/Glimt deserved their victory.

City return to Premier League action at home on Saturday as they look to respond to back-to-back defeats.
