Manchester City are tracking Newcastle United defender Tino Livramento ahead of a potential move in the summer window, as per a new report.
City’s season has unfolded with familiar intensity but unfamiliar complication. The campaign has exposed stress points in a squad that has been stretched by injuries and tactical adaptation, particularly in defensive areas. For Pep Guardiola, the balance between control and continuity has been harder to strike than usual.
The Blues’ backline has been the most disrupted department. Recurring fitness issues have forced Guardiola into a series of short-term solutions, including positional reshuffles that underline the need for long-term clarity rather than reactive fixes. The manager has leaned heavily on flexibility, but the cost has been rhythm and cohesion.
That context explains City’s broader transfer posture. Rather than focusing solely on immediate January repairs, the club’s recruitment team have been shaping plans for the summer, when structural adjustments can be made with greater precision.
The emphasis has been on defenders who can operate across multiple roles, cope with high physical demands and adapt to Guardiola’s positional game.
This season has seen Matheus Nunes used extensively at right-back despite being a midfielder by trade, while Rico Lewis has found himself rotated out of prominence. Abdukodir Khusanov has also deputised on the right, further illustrating City’s reliance on stopgap solutions.
Injuries have compounded the issue. Ruben Dias is set to miss several weeks while there are concerns that Josko Gvardiol could be sidelined for the remainder of the season. Against that backdrop, City’s defensive planning has sharpened.
According to talkSPORT, Manchester City are eyeing a summer swoop for Valentino Livramento, with the England international valued at around £60 million.
Livramento, 23, has been one of Newcastle’s most consistent performers since arriving from Southampton in 2023 for £40 million. He has made 98 appearances for the club, contributing a goal and three assists, and was a starter in the 2025 Carabao Cup final victory over Liverpool that ended Newcastle’s 70-year wait for domestic silverware.
Crucially, Livramento’s versatility aligns with City’s needs. A natural right-back, he has also excelled on the left, covering during Lewis Hall’s injury absences. His adaptability was further highlighted at the international level when he featured at left-back for England in a 5-0 win over Serbia in a FIFA World Cup qualifier.
Despite being tied to Newcastle until 2028, it has been reported that Livramento has shown no willingness to extend his stay at St. James’ Park. That stance has placed pressure on Newcastle’s hierarchy, who are keen to secure his long-term future.
Last October, it was revealed that Newcastle sporting director Ross Wilson had made Livramento’s contract extension a priority amid growing interest from City. Should he agree to fresh terms, the Chelsea academy graduate would become one of the club’s top earners.
However, his reluctance to commit has opened the door for suitors. A disrupted season, in which he has missed 12 games due to a knee injury, has not diminished interest in his profile or potential resale value.
Livramento is not the only Premier League defender on City’s radar. Marc Guehi remains a January target amid City’s injury crisis, though his situation is complicated by his contract status and desire for regular minutes ahead of the summer World Cup.
For City, the Livramento pursuit appears more strategic than urgent. A summer move would allow Newcastle to command full value while giving City a defender entering his prime, capable of solving multiple positional issues in one signing.
As things stand, City are watching closely. With contract talks stalled and interest intensifying, Tino Livramento’s future could become one of the defining defensive stories of the next transfer window.
