Manchester City have reached a verbal agreement with AC Milan over the signing of midfielder Tijjani Reijnders.
City have agreed terms with the Italian side on a transfer package worth around €70m (£58.9m) for the Netherlands international. Personal terms have already been agreed with the player, with the deal set to be finalised imminently.
Pep Guardiola had made Reijnders his number one midfield target for the summer, as the Citizens look to refresh an ageing engine room.
The 26-year-old was named as Serie A’s Best Midfielder in 2024/25, after scoring 15 goals in all competitions despite a disappointing campaign for Milan.
The Rossoneri missed out on European qualification after an eighth-place league finish and have reluctantly accepted an offer for Reijnders to depart. Offers are also expected from other clubs for goalkeeper Mike Maignan and left-back Theo Hernandez.
Last season, Reijnders ranked among the top players in Serie A for passes into the penalty area (2nd), shot-creating actions (6th), progressive passes (5th) and through balls (4th). He has emerged as a key part of the Dutch side in recent years, scoring four times in 22 appearances for the Oranje.
City’s imminent signing of Reijnders is a big boost ahead of their FIFA Club World Cup campaign. Guardiola’s side take on Morocco’s Wydad AC in their opener before group stage clashes with Al Ain and Juventus.
The Citizens are also working on deals to sign Wolves left-back Rayan Ait-Nouri and Lyon midfielder Rayan Cherki. Hopes are high that both players will be signed before their Club World Cup campaign.
