Manchester City have long identified their primary transfer target for this summer’s transfer window: Nottingham Forest midfielder Elliot Anderson. City are hoping to secure a deal to sign the England international before the upcoming World Cup. To do that, City will have to agree on a transfer fee with Nottingham Forest to sign Anderson. That hasn’t occurred yet. City have now seen a bid for Elliot Anderson rejected by Nottingham Forest, but Manchester City is now pushing to conclude a major deal as quickly as possible.
David Ornstein has reported for The Athletic that Nottingham Forest have rejected Manchester City’s opening bid for Elliot Anderson. Furthermore, Ornstein reports that City’s efforts to sign Anderson remain ongoing. Ornstein further reports that Nottingham Forest do not want to lose Elliot Anderson, but they have come to terms with the fact that he is likely to leave the club this summer. Nottingham Forest are also determined to get the best deal possible for the England international.
Manchester City are now actively pushing to find a deal to sign Elliot Anderson from Nottingham Forest as timely as possible. That is no surprise. City are in desperate need of a midfielder like Anderson who can play a role for them now and potentially become the hub of Manchester City’s engine room for the future. While City have seen their opening bid for Anderson rejected by Nottingham Forest, the fact that the two clubs are negotiating is a positive.
It now remains to be seen if City can find a deal with Nottingham Forest to sign Elliot Anderson ahead of the World Cup. That would be a huge win for City. Whether or not it is possible isn’t entirely clear. However, Manchester City is pushing to sign Anderson, so they aren’t wasting time trying to achieve a major summer goal.
