With the January transfer window set to open in less than two weeks, how Manchester City set about improving their squad is well worth keeping an eye on. Bournemouth’s versatile attacking powerhouse Antoine Semenyo has been heavily linked with a move to the Etihad next month. Semenyo would add power, versatility, quality and a goal-scoring threat to the City squad. He has shown how dangerous a player he can be during his time at Bournemouth. A new report indicates that City have now held talks with Antoine Semenyo. City seems to be wasting no time in making their move for the Ghana international.
Alex Crook has reported for TalkSport that Manchester City have held talks with Antoine Semenyo. Furthermore, Crook reports that City are just one of several clubs interested in triggering the release clause in Semenyo’s contract next month. Furthermore, Crook reports that Liverpool, Manchester United and Tottenham are also keen to sign Semenyo. Based on Alex Crook’s report it seems that City are wasting no time in making their move for one of the most dangerous attacking players in the Premier League.
Manchester City are seemingly moving quickly to attempt to conclude a deal for Bournemouth winger Antoine Semenyo. It is easy see why City would be so eager to quickly seal a deal for Semenyo for a host of reasons. The first is that several of Manchester City’s attacking players are unavailable. Omar Marmoush is currently away on international duty with Egypt. City has no backup for Erling Haaland as it stands currently. Antoine Semenyo could fill that hole. Jeremy Doku and Oscar Bobb are both injured which further depletes City’s attacking stocks. Antoine Semenyo could slot into Pep Guardiola’s squad as a viable option to play on either wing with his versatility.
The other reason that Manchester City would be so eager to sign Antoine Semenyo is what he would add to Pep Guardiola’s squad. Semenyo is a versatile player who can play on either wing and through the middle. He is a consistent goal threat and Pep Guardiola’s squad could do with a winger who is a consistent goal scorer. Semenyo is also adept at creating chances for others as the chart below illustrates. There is always room for players who can create chances in the City squad. On top of that, Semenyo is a consistent goal threat whose pace, power and directness could add a new element to the Manchester City attack.

Antoine Semenyo is also a two-footed player adept at playing on either wing. That versatility makes him a player who would appeal to Pep Guardiola and Manchester City. This season, Semenyo has played primarily on the left wing for Bournemouth as the shot chart below illustrates. Although he has popped up all over the box for Bournemouth this season. Semenyo could provide cover for Jeremy Doku if required. But playing on the right for City and cutting onto his left foot would give Pep Guardiola another quality attacking option to utilise. Manchester City are blessed with a host of quality attacking options but if they were to sign Antoine Semenyo they’d add a player who adds a different set of attributes to Manchester City’s current wingers.

It now seems that Manchester City are moving quickly to try and conclude a deal to sign Antoine Semenyo from Bournemouth. Based on Semenyo’s strengths as a player it is easy to see why based on what Semenyo could potentially add to Manchester City’s attacking play. It now remains to be seen if City do intend to quickly sign Semenyo and if they can do it before any other suitors can make their own move for the Ghana international.
