IF Brommapojkarna and Sweden midfielder Love Arrhov has explained why he favoured a move to Eintracht Frankfurt over the chance to work with Pep Guardiola at Manchester City.

Arrhov, 17, is due to join Frankfurt in January 2026 when he runs out of contract at his current club, who had received enquiries from a wide arrray of European clubs for the highly-rated attacking midfielder in the buildup to the youngster’s decision to move to Germany.

Manchester City were understood to hold a keen interest in the teenager as they launch a new era under Guardiola, who signed a two-year extension in the fall of 2024 that will keep him at the Etihad Stadium till the end of the 2026-27 campaign.

City, led by newly-appointed director of football Hugo Viana, have already added Tijjani Reijnders, Rayan Ait-Nouri, Marcus Bettinelli and Rayan Cherki to their ranks in the summer transfer window.

The signatures of the quartet of new arrivals were secured in time for them to travel with Guardiola and the rest of the Manchester City squad to the United States for the ongoing FIFA Club World Cup campaign.

Manchester City could yet add another signing or two between now and the end of the transfer window, with a right-back understood to be a key priority for the board ahead of the departure of Kyle Walker following his return from a loan spell at AC Milan.

However, Guardiola will have been left delighted with the intent shown by the club to freshen up his squad for the Club World Cup and give the dressing room a much-needed injection of fresh blood after a disappointing, trophyless 2024-25 campaign.

In an interview with Fotboll Skanalen, as relayed by Sport Witness, IF Brommapojkarna and Sweden midfielder Love Arrhov has lifted the lid on interest from the Etihad Stadium and why he has decided to join Eintracht Frankfurt next year over Manchester City.

“Yes, they (Manchester City) followed me. I found out about that a little before I found out about Eintracht (Frankfurt),” Arrhov said.

“Of course it was very big, one of the best clubs in the world. But I still didn’t feel any pressure. I’ve always felt safe at BP (Brommapojkarna). But of course, it was very nice to hear that City showed interest.

“But I’m very convinced that Eintracht (Frankfurt) is the right step. It’s a club that takes care of young people.

“We have a good plan. That was a very big factor in why the choice fell on Eintracht Frankfurt.”
