Manchester City demolished Ipswich 6-0 at Portman Road, with Jeremy Doku and Phil Foden particularly impressing. Here’s five things we learned.

Foden continued his excellent recent form

After scoring two against Brentford, and with four goal involvements in his last three games before today, Phil Foden continued his excellent form with two goals and an assist against the Tractor Boys.

Last year’s Premier League Player of the Season had a tough start to this campaign, but in the last six games, he’s been immense. Coincidentally, that is also around the time that City’s form has picked up….

Jeremy Doku had a lot of joy

Ben Johnson and Ben Godfrey contained Doku nicely at the start of the game, not allowing the winger space. But the Belgian persevered and was at the centre of the first goal, playing a lovely ball through to Kevin De Bruyne.

The duo of Doku and De Bruyne then continued to link up beautifully for the rest of the game, also directly creating Foden’s second goal. Pep Guardiola was clearly pleased with the winger and made a point of going straight to high five him at half-time. He continued the second half in the same way and got himself a goal.

Liam Delap held-up play well

He was up top by himself for most of the game, but every time the ball went to Delap he made it stick, and chose the right passing option. He had scraps to feed off, especially after City scored their second.

Ipswich are blessed with a top striker, but could do with a lot more in the wide areas and from those supporting him. Omari Hutchinson blows hot and cold, whilst Jack Clarke and Leif Davis don’t pose enough threat.

Haaland scored in his first game since signing a mega-deal

Erling Haaland played his first game since signing a new nine and a half year deal with City. Throughout the game he wasn’t too involved, and it will be nice for Pep Guardiola to know that Foden and others can chip in with goals when the Norwegian is going through a quiet spell.

He eventually got his goal in the 56th minute and was almost immediately substituted. City face PSG on Wednesday, and Guardiola smartly decided to take off all his big guns.

Ipswich were simply outclassed

The first 20 minutes were competitive and the Tractor Boys put up a fight, but after City’s second, the wheels began to fall off and Guardiola’s side were simply too good. Foden, Doku and De Bruyne were too much for the Ipswich back line to handle.

In the second-half, Kieran McKenna’s side really struggled to cope, and City’s final tally could have easily been seven or eight.
