Manchester City face Crystal Palace this evening in a crunch Premier League fixture.
The Cityzens are bidding to chase down Arsenal in the title race and can not afford a slip-up at the Etihad. Pep Guardiola’s team trail the table toppers by five points, ahead of tonight’s game in hand. With the upcoming weekend representing the penultimate round of Premier League games, City need maximum points and hope Arsenal stumble.
Pep Guardiola has said that Rodri and Abdukodir Khusanov are both “better” and will be assessed ahead of tonight’s clash. The former has been sidelined since last month’s win over Arsenal with a muscular issue, while Khusanov picked up a knock at Everton.
On Rodri, Guardiola said: “Better. We will see in training this afternoon. (Khusanov is) Better as well. (He took a) tough knock against Beto when he played Everton. He’s better.”
Nathan Ake replaced Khusanov against Brentford at the weekend and could again partner former Crystal Palace captain Marc Guehi.
Jean Philippe-Mateta could replace Jorgen Strand Larsen in attack after scoring off the bench against Everton on Sunday.
Fellow forward Eddie Nketiah remains out, alongside Cheick Doucoure. Neither Borna Sosa or Evann Guessand are expected to feature despire recent returns to training.
Pep Guardiola’s side are unbeaten in 13 league games and have not lost at the Etihad in the Premier League since August.
City have won seven of their last eight in all competitions, progressing to a record-breaking fourth consecutive FA Cup final during that run. However, a 3-3 draw at Everton has put the destiny of the Premier League title race in Arsenal’s hands.
Crystal Palace’s only wins in their last five games have both come in Europe, with a two-legged semi-final success against Shakhtar Donetsk sealing a place in the Europa Conference League decider. Palace’s first-ever season in Europe could end with a trophy, with the Eagles to take on Rayo Vallecano later this month.
Oliver Glasner’s side’s league form has been inconsistent as a result of their European run and Palace currently sit 15th in the table. The South Londoners have won only one of their last six in the Premier League.
Possible Manchester City starting XI: Donnarumma; Nunes, Guehi, Ake, O’Reilly; Gonzalez, Bernardo; Semenyo, Cherki, Doku; Haaland
Possible Crystal Palace starting XI: Henderson; Richards, Lacroix, Riad; Munoz, Hughes, Wharton, Mitchell; Pino, Sarr; Mateta.
