Manchester City take on Everton today at the Etihad Stadium in their eighth Premier League fixture of the season. Pep Guardiola’s side enters today’s match looking to extend their unbeaten run in all competitions to eight games. They’ll face a tough Everton side who embody their manager, David Moyes. The Toffees sit eighth on the Premier League table and have impressed at times this season. They’ll be no pushover at the Etihad today, given the quality in their squad.
Here is the latest City injury news and my predicted Manchester City starting eleven ahead of today’s match.
Rodri and Abdukodir Khusanov are unavailable for today’s match due to injury. As of now, it is unclear when the pair will return. Pep Guardiola confirmed yesterday that Rodri will not play today.
Omar Marmoush and Rayan Ait-Nouri have trained this week ahead of today’s clash with Everton. Pep Guardiola told the media yesterday that the pair are edging closer to returning from injury. Mateo Kovacic is also working his way back to full fitness. Kovacic has yet to play a minute for Manchester City this season. He did play for Croatia during the international break, which indicates that he is closing in on a return for his club.
Rayan Cherki could also feature today after returning to City training before the international break. The French international was an unused substitute in Manchester City’s 1-nil win over Brentford. It wouldn’t be a surprise to see Cherki start today, given that he now has a solid block of training under his belt.
Gianluigi Donnarumma: The Italian international is a certain starter in goal for Manchester City today.
Matheus Nunes: Nunes has played well in his past two starts. With Abdukodir Khusanov out, he looks to have the right-back position to himself.
Ruben Dias: I’d be surprised if Dias didn’t start today’s match.
Josko Gvardiol: The Croatian international is fast becoming one of the first names on Pep Guardiola’s teamsheet.
Nico O’Reilly: O’Reilly deserves to continue starting at left-back. It is his position to lose, in my opinion.
Nico: With Rodri out of today’s match, Nico should start as he bids to continue growing as a City player. He will have a vital role to play if he starts against Everton.
Tijjani Reijnders: The Dutch international has begun to grow as a City player and should start in midfield today.
Phil Foden: Foden should be well rested after having a fortnight without football. I expect him to start in midfield.
Rayan Cherki: Cherki is now fully fit after suffering a thigh injury. I’d like to see him start today, and he could start on the right and drift all over the pitch today.
Jeremy Doku: The Belgian international seems to be a certain starter on the left wing.
Erling Haaland: Haaland has had a week’s rest and should be ready to go for today’s game. Hopefully he can continue his strong start the season and fire his team to another win at home.
