Manchester City are eyeing a summer move for Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernandez as they prepare for life without Pep Guardiola at the Etihad Stadium club, according to Sky Sports Germany journalist Florian Plettenberg.

Enzo Maresca is set to replace the outgoing Man City manager and Fernandez is one of his top targets as he prepares to take over.

The former Chelsea boss and the Argentine share a cordial relationship and initial talks have already taken place behind the scenes.

Fernandez made it clear a couple of weeks ago that he is very much open to leaving the Stamford Bridge club this summer.

While the Argentine was talking up a potential move to Real Madrid, he could remain in England and switch to Man City.

Incoming Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso could have his own idea of the type of players he wants and could be open to letting the Blues midfielder leave.

The Spaniard will be eager to mount a title challenge next term and will only prefer to retain the services of players who really want to remain at the club.

Fernandez was a Maresca loyalist when the Italian was at Chelsea, and the 25-year-old often talked about him even after his departure, and a reunion could now be on the cards.

The Premier League game against Sunderland at the Stadium of Light could be the Argentine’s last game for Chelsea.

A potential move to Man City for Fernandez may depend on the future of Rodri, with Madrid likely to move for the Spanish international.

Rodri could leave Man City and return to Spain in the summer with Guardiola leaving, which could pave the way for the club to move for his Chelsea counterpart.
