Having been among the pre-tournament favourites to win the trophy, both teams now face a fight to reach the knockout rounds ahead of their penultimate fixture of the league phase.

However, Pep Guardiola’s side have returned to form in recent weeks, winning four of their last five games. That run includes a 6-0 thrashing of Ipswich at the weekend that saw Phil Foden score twice.

PSG are unbeaten in Ligue 1 this season and nine points clear of nearest challengers Marseille. Their domestic dominance has not transferred to Europe, however, with the French champions outside the playoff places at present. Luis Enrique’s side have already lost to Arsenal, Atletico Madrid and Bayern Munich in this season’s competition.

Nathan Ake missed the weekend win at Ipswich and is unlikely to feature this evening. The Dutch defender has a minor muscular issue. John Stones is also not ready to return from an ankle injury, while Rodri and Oscar Bobb are longer-term absentees.

City otherwise have a full squad available for selection. However, January signings Abdukodir Khusanov and Vitor Reis are unavailable with the defensive duo not registered in the Champions League squad.
